Flip Tables

Some spaces need to do more than one thing. A presentation in the morning, an open floor by lunch. Flip table tops fold vertically and nest together, so a room resets in minutes.

Agile Office Furniture carries rectangular, D-shape, and trapezium options across the Boost and Team ranges, ideal for training rooms, conference venues, multi-use offices, and education environments across NZ.

Who This Range Is For

Office managers and facilities teams running multi-use spaces that switch between meeting configurations and open floor use throughout the week.

Training providers and corporate L&D teams who need tables that can be arranged into rows, U-shapes, or clusters and then cleared quickly between sessions.

Schools, polytechs, and universities fitting out flexible learning spaces where the layout needs to change between classes.

Event and conference venues that need commercial-grade tables built for frequent handling by multiple people over many years.

Businesses in growth mode that don't yet have dedicated meeting rooms but need furniture that earns its keep across multiple functions.

What Are Flip Tables?

A flip table is a mobile work table with a top that folds vertically, pivoting upward so the table sits flat on its edge. Once flipped, multiple tables can be nested together in a compact row, taking up a fraction of the floor space they occupy when in use.

The flip mechanism is the defining feature. A good one locks the top securely in both the horizontal working position and the vertical storage position, so there's no risk of the top shifting during use or dropping unexpectedly during storage.

Flip tables also run on lockable castors, which means one person can move and reposition them without assistance. Lock the castors when the table is in use, then release them to reconfigure or store.

They're also called flip top tables or folding training tables. The category is the same regardless of the name.

Why Flip Tables Matter

Fixed tables commit a room to one configuration. That works for dedicated boardrooms but not for spaces that need to serve multiple purposes across a working week.

A training room with flip tables can run a formal presentation in rows in the morning, reconfigure into a U-shape for a workshop in the afternoon, and be cleared entirely for a site briefing by end of day. This flexibility has real operational value, especially in smaller NZ businesses where every square metre of office space is doing multiple jobs.

The nestability matters too. Flipped and nested, a set of tables that seats a team can be stored in wall space.

Durability is the other consideration. Flip tables in commercial environments get handled constantly and by different people. The tables in this range use commercial-grade 25mm melamine tops with 2mm PVC edging (Team range) and heavy-duty steel frames, built to handle that kind of repeated daily use over many years.

Where Flip Tables Work Best

Auckland CBD and Wynyard Quarter offices running hot-desking or hybrid setups often need rooms that convert between meeting and open-plan configurations quickly. Flip tables make that conversion a two-minute job rather than a furniture removal exercise.

Wellington conference venues and government offices regularly host training days and workshops that draw participants from across multiple agencies. A set of flip tables handles the morning training layout and clears for the afternoon plenary without specialist help.

Christchurch education and training facilities, many of which were built or refitted post-earthquake with flexible use in mind, are well-suited to trapezium and D-shape flip tables that allow instructors to reshape the room between different learning activities.

Tauranga and Hamilton commercial offices growing fast enough to need multi-use meeting space but not yet large enough to dedicate separate rooms to training, presentations, and team meetings.

Dunedin's university and vocational training sector relies on flip tables for lecture rooms and seminar spaces where group work, presentations, and individual assessment all happen in the same physical space.

A Buying Guide: Choosing the Right Flip Tables in NZ

How Many Tables Do You Need?

Start with your largest anticipated configuration. If you need to seat 20 people in a U-shape, you'll need roughly eight to ten tables depending on their size and the shape you're using. Then check that your storage area can accommodate that number of tables nested together.

The Team Flip Table Rectangle, at 1400 x 700mm starting size, is the most common starting point for calculating numbers. The frame is adjustable from 600mm to 1050mm wide, which gives you flexibility if your room proportions change.

Shape: Rectangle, D-Shape, or Trapezium?

Rectangle is the default. It's the most versatile shape for rows, clusters, and standard boardroom-style configurations. Start here unless you have a specific layout in mind.

D-shape tables have one straight edge and one curved edge. When two D-shape tables are placed together with their curved ends facing outward, they form a circular or oval configuration. Useful for small group work where face-to-face discussion is the priority. Both the Boost Flip Table D Shape and Team Flip Table D-Shape are available in this range.

Trapezium tables have angled sides that allow them to be joined end-to-end in a curve, forming U-shapes, hexagons, or other modular arrangements. The Team Flip Table Trapezium at 2173 x 900mm is the largest table in the range and is well-suited to large training rooms or venues where U-shape configurations are standard.

Boost Range vs. Team Range

Boost range (Flip Table and Flip Table D Shape) is a more refined option with an elegant powder-coated frame, a recyclable base, and NZ-made tops. Fixed height of 745mm. Available in Classic Oak Naturale, Silver Strata Naturale, Refined Oak Naturale, and Snow Velvet. Suits environments where aesthetics matter alongside function, such as corporate training rooms or client-facing multi-use spaces.

Team range (Rectangle, D-Shape, Trapezium) uses commercial-grade 25mm melamine tops with 2mm PVC edging and a steel frame adjustable from 600 to 1050mm wide. Available in White, Silver, Black, Nordic Maple, and Atlantic Oak. Joining links are optional for locking tables together. Carries a 15-year warranty.

Joining Links and Configuration

Both the Boost and Team ranges support joining links (ganging kits) that lock tables together for stable row or U-shape configurations. This is important for training environments where participants lean on the table surface or push against it during group work. Check the individual product page for linking compatibility if this is a key requirement.

Castors

All tables in this range run on lockable castors. Larger castor wheels make it easier to move tables across carpet, which matters in many NZ commercial buildings. The Team range uses 70mm locking castors. These are specifically noted as large enough for easy movement.

Finishes

The Boost range offers Classic Oak Naturale, Silver Strata Naturale, Refined Oak Naturale, and Snow Velvet. The Team range offers White, Silver, Black, Nordic Maple, and Atlantic Oak. If finish consistency across a fit-out matters, confirm which tables are available in your preferred colour before ordering multiple units.

Assembly

Flip tables are shipped flat-packed and require assembly of the frame and attachment of the top. Assembly is straightforward for most people but factor in time if you're receiving a large order ahead of a venue opening or office fit-out deadline.

A flip table is a mobile work table with a top that pivots vertically, folding up so the table can be stored compactly on its edge. When multiple tables are stored this way, they nest together, taking up minimal floor space.

They allow multi-use rooms to change configuration quickly, without moving heavy furniture or needing storage space for separate table sets. A room can go from a training layout to open floor space in minutes, which is practical in smaller offices where every room earns its keep.

Yes. All tables in this range run on lockable castors. Lock them when the table is in use, and release them to move or reconfigure. The Team range uses 70mm castors, sized for easy movement across commercial carpet.

Yes. The mechanisms in both ranges are designed for frequent use and lock securely in both the horizontal working position and the vertical storage position. One-handed operation is standard on the Team range.

Rectangle, D-shape, and trapezium. Rectangle suits most standard configurations. D-shape tables pair together to form circles or ovals for small group work. Trapezium tables can be arranged into U-shapes, hexagons, or curved rows for larger training environments.

Yes. Once flipped, the tables nest together flat. A set of tables for a team training session nests neatly together, taking up minimal storage space.

Yes. Both ranges support joining links that lock tables together for stable row or U-shape configurations. This is important when participants lean on or push against the table surface during use.

The Boost range is available in Classic Oak Naturale, Silver Strata Naturale, Refined Oak Naturale, and Snow Velvet. The Team range is available in White, Silver, Black, Nordic Maple, and Atlantic Oak.

Yes. Tables are shipped flat-packed and require assembly of the frame and attachment of the top. Instructions are included. Factor assembly time into your planning if you have a large order arriving before a fit-out deadline.

Yes. Contact Agile directly for volume pricing on multi-unit purchases. Standard online pricing applies to single-unit orders.

The Boost range is a more refined product with NZ-made tops, a recyclable frame, and a cleaner aesthetic suited to corporate or client-facing spaces. The Team range is a commercial workhorse with adjustable frame width, 25mm melamine tops, 15-year warranty, and available in five colour options including wood-grain finishes.
